The site is located on the prestigious Dilido Island, located within Biscayne Bay, Florida. This client has an established relationship with CWA due to past work for three prior residences. The new commission is for the design of a weekend residence.
Drawing on the aesthetic of South American modernism as opposed to Miami’s typical cliché style, the main concerns were that of tectonics and composition, while addressing more pragmatic concerns of natural cooling, ventilation, and shade. Shading techniques were fashioned in a way that filtered and diffused light through elegant screens. In the day these screens provided relief from the hot Florida sun, while at night the house transforms into a lantern.
